I am a fan of Ricky Gervais. I am one of, god-knows how many, millions. I have been a fan of everything he has created.
Recently Ricky Gervais made a comedy quite different to anything he has done before. I have noticed how my initial response was a negative one.
I didn’t like the idea of the show and the assumption that it would be better than his previous work. But I loved the show itself after I watched it.
My problem is that my little ‘packaged idea’ of a comedian had been altered. Apparently I don’t like change.
We tend to learn enough about people and place a full-stop at the end of our little summary of them. Failing to see the fleeting nature of life and how it is not a stagnant, frameable, ‘paused’ item to be labelled.
People will not like what I am doing. While it is common for carpenters to work abroad for a few years and come back – It isn’t common to write about it.
Traveling to different places is great but I want to create. I like sharing what I am doing. I want to explore why people make decisions. What decisions should we make? What emotions stop us from making these decisions? What do we need to go through to gain a balanced perspective?
When you decide to create something new you are met with a wall of resistance. A long list of people telling you how bad it is – Why you shouldn’t do it… or ignoring it completely.
Persistence is everything. If you know an idea is good, go hard and don’t let anyone stop you.
