When people say “I am a perfectionist” they say it with a palpable sense of pride.
But, if your output is ‘zero’, perfectionism is not a quality worth highlighting.
Sure, I want my writing to represent my thoughts accurately. A poorly phrased sentence could make me seem arrogant, naive or stupid. In a world of misinterpretation it is vital to use words correctly. If you cannot express your feelings who will?
Plenty of my time has been spent worrying about this blog; why do it? who will read it? am I good enough?
In carpentry you cannot over-think and expect to get things done.
My analysis paralysis started when i became a skilled enough carpenter to work out a task on my own.
I would sit there with a stupid looking face, staring at a skirting board wondering in how many different ways I could ruin it.
I continued to over-analyse when I was first put in charge of the day to day running of a project; When ‘getting things done’ became my responsibility, I quickly realised what matters and what does not.
I’m driven by my goal, as for the writing: I make sure to post every fortnight and treat it as a work in progress.
You have to make a final decision and accept that it may be imperfect.
Create something! even if it isn’t something perfect.
There is a thin line between over thinking and perfectionism.
Do you over-analyse? learn to trust your instincts more.

traveling…
I just arrived in London after an early Christmas in Edinburgh. It has been a heck of a year for me. I returned to Scotland as an adult since leaving as an infant, toured through-out Europe, met great people and formed relationships that have changed my life.
Next year will be even better.
I hope everyone has a lovely Xmas, bring on 2013.
